About Me
This page is probably the hardest part to write
Let’s see what I can tell you…
My name is Raffaele and I’m from ’84. I was captured by the wonderful world of photography some years ago. I love it. I just love photography!
I love loosing myself into a photograph imagining being in places I’ve never seen. I love capturing places where others have never been. I love capturing the soul of strangers. I love to understand how a picture was taken, what technique was used, what kind of light made that moment magical and unique. I love to see the light.
Here’s how everything began…
My earliest memories go back to the first photos I took with my father and his old Pentax SLR. I also remember that films were too expensive to let me experiment as I wanted. Feedbacks of the results weren’t free as they are now with digital photography. But I was captured. I was fascinated by a machine able to freeze time for ever on a small sheet of paper.
The second episode that I clearly remember about my approach to photography was at junior high school, when the math teacher taught us how to play with acids in the dark room. Then I made my first film development and I was completely caught! Shortly after I followed a course in photography and was then that I saw my first Canon EOS and its incredibly fast autofocus and those fantastic lenses… From that day I began to dream having one of those cameras.
My first camera was a compact Canon (with film) who accompanied me during adolescence. Then I made the big jump to digital photography with a bridge camera from ESPON with which I began capturing some landscapes, but without investigating to much on photography techniques.
Then the big trip… Once finished the High School I went with my girlfriend to the north of Italy to continue our studies. I started studying Computer Engineering and, despite early difficulties, I was able to get both my bachelor and master degrees.
In the spring of 2008 I realized my dream and bought my first DSLR: it was a Canon EOS 400D. From that moment I began to seriously studying: websites, forums, blogs and books on photography became my favorite reading. So my knowledge and my technical skills grew fast. I have to admit that studying engineering helped me to easily understand the technical aspects of photography. For example understand how a CCD sensor works and how the optics of a lens are combined wasn’t difficult. Knowing how the various components are combined and how they work together to get the final result (the photograph) is critical to be able to improve their technique.
The equipment began to grow as well. It started with a tripod, then a remote shutter release, a new lens… and so on.
In 2009 I changed camera and bought a Nikon D300 that soon became my trusted partner in many adventures. The kit is then became larger with different lenses, filters, battery grip and accessories.
That’s my story until now. From now on you can follow my photography experiments here!
I want to explore every corner of this amazing world and you can do that too following me on Mixyourshot!
